Mid-Year Recap On 2017 Design Trends

Mid-Year Recap On 2017 Design Trends

What we’re seeing so far in 2017 is a continued desire for wider and longer hardwood planks, and also a more informal layout using different width planks. Wider planks have the advantage of creating a more unified look – with fewer joint lines – which also highlights the inherent aesthetics of the wood's knots and grains.

Texture continues to be very important this year.  All of our popular Hardwood selections have distinct hand-crafted finishes, such as custom stain coloration, hand scrapped and wire-brushed finishes and are the predominance of client's selections.

Grey tones are hugely popular, but we are beginning to see a growing return back to more natural and dark wood tones.

What has your favorite design trend been so far in 2017?

Nylon and Polyester: Which One Is Better?

Nylon and Polyester: Which One Is Better?

With all of the decisions to make when buying new carpet for your home, one of the most important will be what fiber type you choose.

With all of the decisions to make when buying new carpet for your home, one of the most important will be what fiber type you choose.

Two of the most common types of fiber in carpet is Nylon and Polyester. These are both lightweight and durable synthetic fabrics that share some similarities such as easy care, wrinkle resistance, stretch resistance and shrink resistance.

The first thing we would like our customers to know about carpet is that it is not just a fiber; and there is a lot more to the equation that needs to be considered before making a purchase decision. Consider the twist, density, pile height and overall construction; all of these things can effect the cost and longevity of a carpet.

Ultimately, the carpet fiber that you choose will all depend on your priorities and needs. We want all of our customers to feel confident in their decisions and have all of the necessary facts needed before making a purchase. We have listed out the main difference between Nylon and Polyester and hope these will make your carpet selecting process that much easier!

Nylon

  • Nylon is often softer than polyester and is stronger and very durable. It is often considered the most durable synthetic carpet fiber available.
  • Nylon has a smooth and silky texture and Nylon fabrics are also known to offer a more natural feel.
  • Nylon is more expensive than other synthetic carpet fibers and is the most commonly used carpet fiber today.
  • The strengths of Nylon include good resiliency, good yarn memory to hold twist, good stain resistance with stain treatment applied, good soil hiding ability, and good abrasion resistance.
  • Since it is the strongest fiber, it is an excellent choice for heavy traffic areas, active households or commercial facilities.
  • Nylon has been around for a lot longer and is known for being a better product for heavier traffic areas.
  • For larger families with children and/or pets, we would recommend nylon.

Polyester

  • A very stain-resistant carpet choice, made from recycled content from recycled soda and water bottles.
  • Polyester is usually less expensive than Nylon.
  • Polyester’s texture is not as smooth as Nylon and has more of the fiber feeling.
  • A more budget friendly carpet choice, polyester is just about the least expensive carpet choice on the market.
  • It is generally considered to be a less durable fiber than nylon.
  • Polyester is faster drying, easier to dye and abrasion resistant.
  • We recommend choosing a well constructed polyester carpet with a higher pile and medium-high density for the best retention and long-term wear.
